Each Helps page, as it is made available to the homeschool community, will be described in detail here. Helps will be presented in alphabetical order.

LATIN HELPS

The ultimate goal of systematic study of Latin should be to gain a richer understanding of documents originally written in Latin, such as Jerome's Latin Vulgate bible translation. However, a wonderful by-product of Latin study is a student's increased skills in both English vocabulary and grammar. Because Latin study has a vast amount of elements, homeschool teachers might benefit from these “Helps” if Latin is included in their homeschooling curricula.

There are two sets of Latin Helps included here which are designed to assist the teacher of Latin who is already familiar* with the subject matter, and to some degree, with various Latin curricula and with teaching Latin in general:

1-The first set of Latin Helps included on our site can assist the homeschooling Latin instructor to utilize ANY Latin program more fully by providing tips, mnemonics, games and more.

2-The second set of Latin Helps provides syllabi to a few popular Latin Programs (roughly 34-weeks covered in each), used in homeschool co-op settings. These syllabi can assist the Latin instructor in plotting out each school year's course of study using the specified curriculum, whether in a co-op or home setting.

• The novice teacher is recommended to refer to either “A Comprehensive Guide to Wheelock\’s Latin” by Dale Grote, or “English Grammar for Students of Latin” by Norma W. Goldman to aid in their understanding of Latin concepts. The novice is also recommended to start out their Latin experience by using a curriculum which assumes no prior knowledge of Latin on the part of the teacher, such as “Great Latin Adventures” by Katharine Birkett, which can be found at http://www.classicallegacypress.com/ Also, a Latin curriculum review site for more curriculum recommendations can be found at http://www.classical-homeschooling.org/

PLANNING HELPS

Careful planning in homeschooling helps to make curriculum purchases more cost effective, helps to organize school time for optimal efficiency, and helps create a working yearly, weekly, and/or daily lesson plan to follow. Effective planning also helps homeschool instructors to gain an accurate record of all actual work completed at the end of the year.

The Planning Helps on this site can:

-assist the homeschooling instructor to organize curriculum purchases;
-create and follow specified yearly, weekly and daily schedules;

-can assist to achieve accurate records of work completed at the end of the year.
